The idea of Darpan was established on March 8, 1996, on the occasion of International Women's Day, and was registered on December 15, 1998 under the Trust Act 1882. The organisation has been working across the villages of Churchu and Mandu on issues related to women and striving to achieve women empowerment through awareness programmes and interventions around self-employment, savings, health, education, and environment. Through the Meri Mitti Challenge, Darpan is actively contributing to help women attain their land rights.
Rajni Kiran has been actively engaged in empowering the underprivileged communities of Hazaribagh, Jharkhand for more than 15 years now. Her key interest lies in initiatives focused on women and children and is currently leading this new initiative through Darpan for tribals under Meri-Mitti Project.
