Farmers for Forests helps farmers protect and increase India’s forest cover in order to fight climate change and poverty. F4F does that using the payment for ecosystem services (PES) approach for both its deforestation prevention and afforestation programs, providing conditional cash transfers to both to farmers and other rural landowners to grow either new forests or protect existing forests. The cash transfers are contingent upon the survival of the forests, which is rigorously monitored by F4F through satellite and GIS mapping, ensuring both accountability and transparency throughout the lifecycle of the programs.
