Foundation for Ecological Security

Strengthening, reviving, and restoring the process of ecological succession and the conservation of land, forest, and water resources in the country.

About

The proposed research will study the social ecology of the pastoral river Luni, in Rajasthan. The drying up of the river, the undermining of pastoralism and local irrigation systems, as well as decline in rain-fed cropping in this substantial tract, will be obstacles for the region's population to cope with future stresses of climatic change and volatility. Therefore, this study will explore how local communities can be engaged to reclaim the degraded landscape of the river tracts.
